A Description Of The Exact Project Managers Resume Template I Use

When I started to apply for Project Management jobs I realised that my basic resume template which included old school content like an objective statement and a referee listing wasn’t getting any results, no call backs, nothing.

I discovered that it’s common for a recruiter to see over 200 resumes a day. I worked out that it was far more important to make the first page as impressive as possible than it was to fill my resume with a detailed account of my work history. It seems, no one cares about a boring encyclopaedia of past work history.

Trial and Error

Through a process of trial and error I developed a reusable, repeatable template to help me apply for multiple jobs, arrange my experience, and sell my ability to solve problems. I ended up using my template to help colleagues and friends get jobs, I was thrilled because the template was working!

I just recently used my resume template to get an interview for, and win a short-term project management contract.

As a project manager you’re aware of how important it is to make effective use of your time. When you’re looking for a job the focus of your time should be on creating great content not wrestling with a template, a template should just work.

My Project Managers Resume Template

I designed my resume template with one purpose in mind, a clean modern way to present your career achievements and work experience. I use the following things in my resume.

• Clean Sections – My template uses some white space to create a distinction between sections. The use of simple colour stops the text from becoming jumbled.
• Consistent Fronts – I’ve used clean consistent fonts across the resume. I’ve increased front size to help the reader focus on my name, role and contact details.
• First Page – The first page is designed to do one things only. Display my name, role and career achievements; I want someone to understand who I am in the shortest possible time.
• Work experience - All of the work experience examples are short and punchy. Each line is designed to sell, no fluff just the facts.
• Skills Summary - While I mention my skills at the start of my resume, I also put them in a table at the end just so they are formally covered.
